Zia Fahim

Zia Fahim | Afghanistan

Zia Fahim is a community leader, educator, linguist, and social activist who came to Colorado in April 2021. Zia has dedicated his professional and community work to education, humanitarian service, cultural preservation, and advocacy for refugee and minority communities, particularly the Hazara community of Afghanistan.  Zia obtained a bachelor’s degree in Education from Kabul Education University in Afghanistan and completed a Certificate in English Language Studies from MELI English Language Institute in Kabul in 2010. He is currently pursuing his second bachelor’s degree, a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Management, at the University of Colorado Denver Business School. Fluent in four languages, he is widely recognized for his strong communication skills, leadership abilities, and effectiveness in multicultural and high-pressure environments.

Before immigrating to the United States, Zia worked extensively in Afghanistan’s education sector. From 2014 to 2021, he served as a Department Manager and English Language Instructor at Pegah High School and Amazon English Academy in Kabul city. Earlier in his career, Zia worked as a Translator and Interpreter, supporting communication efforts between U.S. military personnel, ISAF forces, and Afghan local authorities. Through this work, he developed extensive experience in intercultural communication, diplomacy, and conflict-sensitive engagement.

Since relocating to Colorado, Zia has remained deeply involved in community service, advocacy, and nonprofit leadership. He is a co-founder of the Hazara Cultural Community of Colorado (HCCC), where he previously served as Interim President and currently serves as Vice President. Through this organization, he has worked to strengthen community unity, preserve Hazara cultural identity, support refugee and immigrant families, and advocate for the social and humanitarian concerns of the Hazara people.
